Spiced Biscotti Recipe

A great treat to go with your cup of coffee! What's great about this recipe is that there aren't unhealthy calories from high fat dairy or saturated fats like butter or cream. However, keep in mind it still contains some sugar so enjoy this treat in moderation in a well-balanced diet! 

Ingredients

1 cup vegetable oil

3/4th cup sugar

½ cup orange juice

Orange zest 

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp nutmeg

1 tsp ground anise seeds

½ cup chopped almonds

3 cups of all purpose flour

Procedure 

1-Mix the oil and sugar together, then add orange juice, orange zest, baking soda, and spices. Continue mixing.

2- Gradually add the flour and nuts and mix until the dough holds together and is not too stick (it can be a little wet). 

3. Divide dough into 4 equal parts on a lightly floured surface and roll them out in 4 log shapes. 

4. Place onto a pan (covered with a cookie sheet to avoid sticking) and flatten into a rectangular loaf ( about 7 wide and 2 cm thick). Then using a knife make slices into the loaves of about 2 cm in size. Do not slice all the way through. 

5. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and cool slightly. Slice the biscotti all the way through and turn them to the side. Place them into the oven again and bake for 5 min on each side.
