Get moving! Tips to increase your daily activity


This isn’t about joining a gym or becoming an athlete, walking is the simplest way to start with increasing your activity. It’s easy, safe and costs nothing! Walking has positive health benefits, decreases disease risk, and aids in weight loss.  The recommendation is a minimum of 30 minutes per day for 5 days a week. You can even split them up into three 10 minute sessions and still get the health benefits.  Below are a few tips to add some activity in your daily routine and help you achieve this recommendation for a healthier you!  

Tips to Increase your Steps


Go walking with friends instead of meeting for coffee


When running errands, do them walking instead of by car


Park further away from work 


Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator, both up and down!


Walk during your lunch break


Go for a walk before or after dinner

Walk around your home or up and down stairs during television commercials 


Pace while talking on the phone, this can add steps while having a conversation


Take your dog out for a walk


Housework can add activity

Shopping! Yes brisk walking when shopping is a great way to add some activity
